Amarilloan Ryan Palmer north of the border for the Canadian Open and he fired a one under par 69 in round one. He trails the leader Scott Piercy by 7 shots after he set a course record 62. Round two is on Friday.

Residents of Potter and Randall Counties have the chance to play for a City Championship in the next week. The Amarillo Ladies Championship takes place August 4-5 at Ross Rogers GC. Entry fee is $100 including cart and lunch on Sunday plus flight winners. Ladies, you have until August 2 to enter.

The Amarillo Junior City championships presented by DSS takes place August 7-8 at Ross Rogers GC. Entry fee is $30 and includes two rounds of golf for all but the 10-11 year olds (9 holes each day) along with a pizza party for players and parents along with trophies. New this year, the event will be "stroke play" and deadline to enter is noon August 5.
