AMARILLO,TEXAS -- Amarilloan Ryan Palmer part of the marquee threesome during Thursdays Golf Channel coverage of round one at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Ryan paired with Phil Mickelson and Ian Poulter, the 3rd and 5th ranked players in the world. For most of the day, Palmer had the lowest score in the group, but a double bogey on the final hole reduced his final result to 2 under par. Mickelson shot 3 under while Poulter was one over. Amarillo native Johnson Wagner shot one over while Chad Campbell of Andrews 3 under. The tournament leader is Comilo Villegas at 9 under. Round two Friday at the TPC of Scottsdale.
Amarillo bowler and defending US Open champion, Mike Scroggins has passed his first hurdle in defense of his title. After another round of qualifying he stands 16th as 25 percent of the field advanced. More action on Friday in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Former touring pro Alex O'Brien will host a fundraiser this Saturday to benefit his "Youth Tennis Foundation". One of his fellow touring pros from back in the day, Tommy Ho will be on hand to play Alex and take part in the fun. Every $50 donation will allow a child to participate in a 10 week "I wanna play" after school program while $25 gets them 5 weeks. Here's the schedule of events.
