ABILENE, Texas (AP) - Hardin-Simmons University has named offensive line coach Jesse Burleson to be head coach of his alma mater.

The school in Abilene on Friday announced the promotion of the 33-year-old Burleson. He had been assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator since 2008.

Coach Jimmie Keeling, who's 75, retired last month after 21 years as head football coach. Burleson had been named interim head coach.

Burleson is a native of Clyde.
