WTAMU men's soccer moves up

CANYON, TEXAS --  The West Texas A&M men’s soccer team moved up 11 spots to 13th in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer National Poll, released Tuesday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

 The Buffs are coming off of a strong week as they traveled to then-11th-ranked Colorado Mines on Friday and won 4-2, followed by a 2-2 tie in double overtime Sunday at Regis University.   WT stands at 4-0-1 on the year and is led offensively by senior Dominic Furness who leads the team with nine goals and two assists this season. 

 In addition to being ranked 13th, the Buffs are second in the South Central Region poll which also was released Tuesday by the NSCAA.  Lone Star Conference rival Midwestern State leads the 10-team region poll, followed by the Buffs, Regis, Fort Lewis and Colorado Mines round out the top five.  Lone Star member Incarnate Word is sixth, followed by Metro State, Eastern New Mexico, Colorado State-Pueblo and Dallas Baptist.

Lynn University (Fla.) leads the national poll with a 4-0 record, while Seattle Pacific is second, followed by Southern New Hampshire, Flagler (Fla.) and Midwestern State.  Fort Hays State, who the Buffs host Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at The Pitch, is 11th, while Regis breaks in to the poll at 19th.

 

The Buffs  open 2012 Lone Star Conference action Friday evening at Incarnate Word at 5 p.m., and return home to host Fort Hays State Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
