WT Buffs rack up accolades

West Texas A&M had 10 first-team selections and five individual award winners recognized Friday when the annual Lone Star Conference football awards were announced by LSC officials.
The Buffaloes, who were co-LSC Champions, had seven players on the top offense and three more on the first-team defense. WT earned several individual accolades with Offensive Player of the Year (J.W. Rollins award) Dustin Vaughan, Offensive Back of the Year Khiry Robinson, co- Receiver of the Year Torrence Allen, Defensive Player of the Year (J.V. Sikes award) Ethan Westbrooks, and co-Coach of the Year Don Carthel.
Midwestern State had six first-teamers with four on offense and two on defense including Offensive Lineman of the Year Ken Van Heule and co-Coach of the Year Bill Maskill. The Mustangs earned their third LSC title in the last four years.
Texas A&M-Kingsville had three first-teamers with co-Receiver of the Year Robert Armstrong and co-Coach of the Year Bo Atterberry.
Abilene Christian was represented by four first-team selections including co-Receiver of the Year Taylor Gabriel and Defensive Back of the Year LB Suggs.
Tarleton State had three first-teamers on the defensive side with Defensive Lineman of the Year Rufus Johnson.
Angelo State had a trio of first-team picks and the Freshman of the Year Clayton Callicutt.
Texas A&M-Commerce’s Danny Mason was named Linebacker of the Year as the Lions only first team player.
Overall, 128 student-athletes were recognized by the LSC's postseason awards program, with 31 players named to the first team, 38 on the second team and another 59 gaining honorable mention. The all-conference honors were selected by the head coaches of the nine league teams.
