AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Maverick Boys and Girls Club of Amarillo named Kimber Daniel as their new Executive Director and President. She was selected after serving as Interim Executive Director.
Daniel states that she is excited about her new position and that it was a natural progression in her career. As the new Executive Director, she will be able to get out in the community and help implement new ideas that the club has been trying to work on.
"One of the big things that I'm looking forward to doing this year is increasing the teen population and increasing the amount of time that the kids stay here at the club," said Daniel. She states that they would like for their kids to spend three or more days at the club.
In order to bring more teenagers into the club, the offer new programs to help draw them in. One of their new programs is called First Fridays. Teen can come the 1st Friday of each month and hang out. She states that teens can hang out and play basketball or listen to music since they bring in a DJ. "It gives them someplace to go so they're not hanging out on the street," she said.
Daniel believes that if they can bring in more kids and get them involved in different types of activities that then they will want to come more days in the year.
One thing Daniel is especially looking forward to be getting out into the community, something she says she wasn't always able to do in her previous position. She states that she would like to raise awareness about the kids in Amarillo that actually need the services that they provide. Their fees are $20 per month which makes it easily accessible for all children throughout the city of Amarillo to have a safe place to go. "Without the Maverick Boys and Girls Club, there's just no place for these kids to go."
