TODAY'S FORECAST FOR AMARILLO Saturday, March 13, 2010 |
 |
Sunny 65° | 30° |
|
*****DON'T FORGET TO SET YOUR CLOCKS AHEAD ONE HOUR BEFORE GOING TO BED SATURDAY NIGHT!*****
*****DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME BEGINS AT 2AM SUNDAY!*****
Just in time for the upcoming weekend, we will see less wind, more sunshine and high temperatures much closer to where we should be this time of the year! Yep, it's going to be a simply gorgeous Saturday!! The 30 year average is at 61 degrees, and there's a good chance most of us will top that! In fact, under a sunny sky, high temperatures warm into the lower to upper 60s. Winds will blow from the northwest early in the day then shift to the south through the afternoon. Wind speeds will be light at 5 to 15 mph.

TONIGHT |
 |
Clear 32° |
|
After a warm day across the High Plains, temperatures will fall quickly (as they usually do in calm, dry conditions) into the lower 30s and upper 20s. That's pretty normal for this time of year. Expect a clear to mostly clear night, with light winds. Those winds will shift from the northwest to the southeast by early Sunday morning.

TOMORROW'S FORECAST FOR AMARILLO Sunday, March 14, 2010 |
 |
Partly Cloudy 63° | 32° |
| *****DON'T FORGET TO SET YOUR CLOCKS AHEAD ONE OUR BEFORE GOING TO BED SATURDAY NIGHT!*****
*****DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME BEGINS 2AM SUNDAY!*****
As we lose an hour of sleep (but gain an hour of daylight in the evenings), another upper-level storm will be poised and ready to drop into the area. That storm will spread clouds into the High Plains from west to east during the day and by Sunday night, a few rain showers may move in as well...especially across western parts of the High Plains. High temperatures will be mild one more day before a cold front drops into the area Sunday night and early Monday morning. Highs will reach the upper 50s to middle 60s by Sunday afternoon. The wind will also increase from the southeast up to 15 to 25 mph with some gusts upwards of 35-40 mph possible. |
TOMORROW NIGHT: Mostly Cloudy with Isolated Showers 35° |
| We may see a few rain showers develop and push into the area behind a cold front that will shift our winds around from the southeast to the northwest. Unfortunately, those winds will begin to pick up and blow around 15-25 mph with some higher gusts in excess of 35 mph possible. Rainfall totals will be light initially, but may reach upwards of .25 inches by Monday evening, with isolated heavier totals possible. Expect plenty of clouds, with isolated showers, mainly across the northwestern portions of the High Plains. Temperatures will fall into the 30s across the area, but will likely stay above freezing, thanks to those stronger winds, and plenty of cloud cover. |

EXTENDED FORECAST FOR AMARILLO |
| Monday, March 15, 201035°|46° |
| Beware of the ides of March! With another upper-level storm tracking across the area, we'll have a renewed chance for rain on Monday. Scattered showers will be possible throughout the day. Outside of the chance for rain, we'll have a mostly cloudy to cloudy sky to help keep temperatures down in the middle 40s to middle 50s. Wind speeds will be between 20 and 30 mph most of the day with some gusts upwards of 40-50 mph possible. That will keep wind chill values down in the 20s and 30s most of the day as well. Brr. Rainfall totals upwards of .25 inches will be possible with isolated heavier totals as well. |
| Tuesday, March 16, 201031°|60° |
| We get right back to a mostly sunny sky on Tuesday as upper-level high pressure settles into the area. Highs will rebound in the upper 50s to lower 60s with a south to southwest wind blowing at 5 to 15 mph. |
| Wednesday, March 17, 201035°|68° |
| The wind will increase a bit on Wednesday, but it's still shaping up to be an awfully nice day. We'll still have a mostly sunny sky and highs will reach the lower 60s to lower 70s! The wind will blow from the southwest at 10 to 20 mph. |
| Thursday, March 18, 201037°|69° |
| Breezy weather returns on Thursday as another upper-level storm starts to edge our way. A weak cold front is also expected to arrive by Thursday so the wind will shift from the southwest to the northwest at 15 to 25 mph, but that won't happen until later on in the evening. Thanks to that, highs will still climb into the 60s to lower 70s under a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky. |
| Friday, March 19, 201034°|57° |
| A few clouds will pass overhead as an upper level storm clips the High Plains. Looks like we may miss out on any measurable moisture this time around, but there will be other opportunities... don't worry! Temperatures will be a few degrees cooler as highs rise into the mid and upper 50s by Friday afternoon. Winds will generally blow from the north around 15-25 mph, under a partly cloudy sky. |
