TODAY'S FORECAST FOR CLOVIS, NM
Thursday, July 29, 2010
Today's forecast
Partly Cloudy with Isolated Thunderstorms
88 | 64°
The upper-level low pressure system should be near Hobbs, NM by this afternoon. Even though the center of the storm is farther away, most of the High Plains will still have a chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms. A good number of us will stay dry, but those lucky folks who do see the much-needed rainfall will only see .10 to .25 of an inch with isolated, heavier totals upwards of .50 to 1 inch from the stronger t-storms. Otherwise, expect a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky today. Southerly winds will blow at speeds averaging 10-20 mph, but beware that variable and gusty winds will be possible both in and near the showers and t-storms! High temperatures in the upper 80s to the middle 90s will be common.
TONIGHT
Tonight's forecast
Partly Cloudy with Isolated Thunderstorms
65°
What isolated showers and t-storms we do see this afternoon will continue Thursday evening before dissipating. A tenth to quarter of an inch of rain can be expected with the lucky folks who do see the rainfall, but isolated, heavier totals near .75 of an inch can be expected from the stronger t-storms. Skies will be partly cloudy this evening before becoming mostly clear after midnight. Winds will blow from the south at speeds averaging 10-20 mph. Overnight low temperatures in the 60s will be common for most with lows in the lower 70s for the southeastern Texas Panhandle before sunrise Friday.
TOMORROW'S FORECAST FOR CLOVIS, NM
Friday, July 30, 2010
Tomrrow's forecast
Mostly Sunny
92 | 66
The trend will be for drier and warmer weather as we wrap up the week. We'll see a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky on Friday with only fair-weather cumulus clouds expected to develop in the afternoon. Highs will generally be in the 90s with upper 90s to lower 100s possible for the southeastern Texas Panhandle. Winds will blow from the south and southwest at 10 to 20 mph. There may be a few more thunderstorms developing late in the afternoon, but it appears the best chance for those storms will only be across northeastern New Mexico, far western parts of the Oklahoma Panhandle, and extreme northwestern parts of the Texas Panhandle.
TOMORROW NIGHT: Mostly Clear
67
There may be a few isolated late afternoon or early evening showers or thunderstorms over northeastern New Mexico or the Oklahoma Panhandle, but these showers and t-storms will quickly dissipate after sunset. Otherwise, expect mostly clear to partly cloudy skies to prevail as overnight low temperatures only drop into the middle 60s to the lower 70s by sunrise Saturday. Winds will blow from the south and southwest at speeds averaging 10-20 mph throughout the night.
EXTENDED FORECAST FOR CLOVIS, NM
Saturday, July 31, 201067°|94°
The heat will continue to build back in to the area on Saturday with a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky. Highs will climb into the lower 90s to around 102° with a south to southwest wind blowing at 10 to 20 mph. By late in the day, some showers and thunderstorms may develop off the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado. If they can hold together, they'll move into the Oklahoma Panhandle or the northeastern corner of New Mexico (Union County), but the rest of us will stay dry.
Sunday, August 01, 201070°|96°
The first day of August is shaping up to be a breezy and hot day with a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky. High temperatures will climb into the middle 90s to around 103°. Winds will blow from the south and southwest at 15 to 25 mph with some gusts upwards of 35-40 mph possible as well.
Monday, August 02, 201066°|96°
The "weak cold front" that we thought might move through the area now appears to stall out to our north across southwestern Kansas and perhaps, the Oklahoma Panhandle. That means that the majority of High Plains residents will see sunny skies Monday morning that will become mostly sunny to partly cloudy. It will be a hot and breezy day as southerly to southwesterly winds blow at speeds averaging 15-25 mph with some gusts upwards of 35-40 mph possible. High temperatures in the middle 90s to the lower 100s also appear likely for the majority of High Plains residents as well.
Tuesday, August 03, 201066°|95°
Upper-level high pressure will reign supreme over the region on Tuesday as sunny skies Tuesday morning become mostly sunny to partly cloudy in the afternoon hours. High temperatures will easily soar into the 90s over most of the region with a few lower 100s possible for the eastern and southeastern Texas Panhandle. Winds will blow from the south and southwest at speeds averaging 10-20 mph throughout the day.
Wednesday, August 04, 201067°|95°
More heat and more dry weather will be the weather terms used most often on Wednesday as upper-level high pressure continues to sit overhead and prevents any rainfall from developing. So, a sunny morning sky will become mostly sunny to partly cloudy in the afternoon as high temperatures warm into the 90s throughout the region with lower 100s again likely for the southeastern Texas Panhandle. Winds will blow from the south and southwest at speeds averaging 10-20 mph.
