Hundreds of thousands of people have fled New Orleans to escape the wrath of Hurricane Gustav only to be turned away at shelters. Some shelters in Northern Louisiana were for people with special needs only and others were for only those people who arrived on a bus. So many families have continued traveling to try and find a place to stay.

The Lombard family is one of those who  was repeatedly turned away at shelters and have now found their way here to Amarillo only to find another road block.

After hearing the Amarillo shelter wasn't accepting families, the Lombard's called ProNews Seven for help. They have heard the Red Cross in San Antonio may be available but with over 130,000 miles on their car and tires that only have a few hundred miles left on them, money is very tight.

It wasn't very long ago that our own Brian Wilkerson did a story called "How Kind is Amarillo?" and there were people who stepped up and helped out total strangers. So now, the Lombard family is hoping someone can do the same for them.

If you would like to help, you can reach Tisha Lombard at 504-428-6347.
