AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Several burglaries in rural Randall County during the day are prompting authorities to step up patrols.

The Randall County Sheriff's Office said the burglars are targeting homes during the day when the homeowners are at work.

The burglars, according to the Sheriff's Office, typically get inside the home by kicking in doors. They then go through the entire house to steal valuable items such as tools, power tools, sports equipment, televisions and video gaming electronics.

Police said the hardest hit areas are in the area of the Claude Highway and Lake Tanglewood Road around the Richland Acres and Ranch Acres South.

Proactive patrols have been set up in these areas, the Sheriff's Office said.

Instead of confronting the burglars, the Randall County Sheriff's Office says to call 911 as soon as possible.
