AMARILLO, TEXAS -- One of the most visible and economically prosperous events in Amarillo is staying at home.

The World Championship Ranch Rodeo (WRCA) announced on Wednesday that it is planning to stay in Amarillo for another three years.

The WRCA signed an agreement with the Amarillo Civic Center and the Amarillo Convention and Visitor Council (CVC) to produce the rodeos in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

"This has become our city's signature event, Executive Director of the Amarillo CVC Dan Quandt said. "Everything about the World Championship Ranch Rodeo reflects our core history and heritage, from cowboys to family values to great entertainment, and it is one way to step into the real Texas."

The annual event has about a $2 million economic impact on the city, the Chamber of Commerce said. That includes direct revenue to the city's restaurants, hotels and other businesses.

"The WRCA is very happy and proud to keep this world-class event in our hometown of Amarillo," WRCA Manager Mandy Morton said. "The all-under-one-roof facilities, the yearly improvements and the good friends we have made over our first 17 years in Amarillo make this a great place to be through our 20th annual championship in 2015."

Performances for the rodeo begin and last until Sunday. Click here to purchase tickets.
