Man wanted from police pursuit captured

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A 40-year-old man was arrested on charges stemming from a vehicle pursuit and forgery that happened on Tuesday, according to Amarillo Police.

Loal Ross King, 40, was arrested Wednesday afternoon on charges of Forgery by Passing and Evading Arrest/Detention in a Motor Vehicle, police said. Both charges are state jail felonies.

At about 5 p.m., Tuesday, police responded to a forgery call at the Amarillo National Bank in the 4500 block of South Bell.

Police said an officer approached the driver of a vehicle and asked him to step out of a car. After he refused to comply with the officer's commands, he maneuvered his vehicle of of the drive-up teller line and sped away, police said.

Amarillo Police pursued the vehicle for a short time but because of traffic conditions, the pursuit was called off.

A vehicle and suspect description were obtained by bank employees.

Officers began checking the residential area where the suspect possibly lived and a different officer located the suspect and another short pursuit ended. That pursuit, according to police, was also called off because the probability of locating the suspect at a later time.

An arrest warrant was obtained for King on the forgery and evading arrest charges. On Wednesday, police said its SWAT team located and arrested King at a motel in the 4100 block of Canyon Drive.

King was also wanted on Bond Surrender warrants with the original charge of Assault by Strangulation and Escape out of Randall County, police said.

He was booked into the Randall County Jail.
