Clovis man sentenced to 7 years for dealing Cocaine

Jaime Salazar, 26, was sentenced to seven years in prison for dealing cocaine in Clovis, N.M.

On Feb. 16, 2011, Region V Drug Task Force was informed that a large amount of cocaine was being delivered to the Kings Inn Hotel in Clovis. Officers watched the hotel and noticed that a truck matching the anonymous tip description.

Salazar was driving the vehicle, when police searched the truck and uncovered $53,000 in cash, 312 grams of cocaine and two handguns inside the truck. Salazar was arrested at the scene.

Curry County Jury found Salazar guilty of drug trafficking on July 12, 2012.

"We are pleased with the fact that Salazar will spend the next seven years behind bars", said District Attorney Matthew Chandler. "In addition, the State was able to confiscate the $53,000 in cash as it was proven in court that the money was being used to advance criminal activity in our community, and now that money may be used by law enforcement to continue to fight the war against drug dealers like Salazar."
