APD: Car theft numbers up in Jan. 2013

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo Police Department has released a statement indicating that the number of vehicle thefts has increased in January.

According to APD, January was an extremely hard month on car owners when79 vehicles were reported stolen.

APD wants you to know that car theft is an easy crime to deter. Here are some tips to keep your car safe.

First and foremost take your keys with you. APD reports that of the 79 vehicles stolen, 64 cars had the keys in them and 39 of the vehicles were running.

Car thefts are occuring all over the city APD said.

APD is asking motorists to remember to take the keys with them in order to save themselves the hassle of dealing with a stolen vehicle.
