AMARILLO, TEXAS -- If you're not a fan or orange cones and work zones, you might want to watch out for a few construction hot spots in and around Amarillo.

If you've been slowed on I-40 or I-27 recently, don't fret too much, Texas Department of Transportation crews are just out patching the roads with tar to keep them from cracking in the event of another snow or rainstorm. Paul Braun, Spokesperson for TxDOT, told Pronews 7 those preventative efforts shouldn't slow anyone down for too long.

"We have to close down lanes in order for them to do that but it's a moving operation and it goes pretty quickly," Braun explained.

As for the Grand Street Overpass Project, it's still underway. TxDOT is waiting for warmer weather before they can put down concrete on the overpass.

"Right now the Grand Street overpass is waiting for some warmer weather so we can put the concrete deck on the overpass itself," he said. "Once that's done and some other work is done we can open up at least the overpass to traffic while we work on the area underneath and beside the area that traffic is on right now."

TxDOT also has to wait for warmer weather to move forward with construction near I-27 and Bell Street.

"We can't do anything until hot mix season starts up again that's going to probably be in the middle of April. You need warmer weather and warmer pavement temperatures in order to lay down hot mix for it to settle properly," explained Braun.

Eventually, when TxDOT picks back up on that project, they'll also begin more work near Western street and I-27.

"We're going to put a whole other overlay on that and then we're going to work on the roadway from right before Western Street and the ramp there going off to Western Street, all the way to Western Street," said Braun. "We've got to do that area this summer."
