AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Panhandle weather can change in the blink of an eye. According to the National Weather Service, the recent random weather patterns are nothing to worry about and in fact can actually be very beneficial for the future.
An all too familiar topic: drought has been on many minds throughout the summer and meteorologists stated that the winter season may have a turn of luck with the deficiency.
"We are expecting overall the winter to be mild on the temperature side but toward the end of the winter and into the early spring we are expecting the pattern to become more active and we'll have increasing chances for precipitation,” said Meteorologist, John Cockrell.
Although the weather this time of year remains ever changing, National Weather Service’s Meteorologist said the pattern is fairly normal for the Panhandle area.
"Around this time of year we do start to see a pattern change where we start to have the colder air that's been bottled up in Canada all summer, start to spill south and move across the plains, into our area,” said Meteorologist Christine Krause.
After weeks of triple digits a lot of people are welcoming the cool down and even the leaves are adjusting to their fall browns and yellows.
"Our temperatures are a little bit warmer than normal. It doesn't mean that we are going to stay that way the whole time. We are going to have periods where we might get very cold but there are going to be periods where we'll get warm. On average we should have a little bit more precipitation than normal and a little bit warmer than normal,” said Meteorologist, Stephen Bilodeau.
