A Pampa man has been killed in a building collapse at a plant located in the city.
PAMPA, TEXAS -- Lieutenant Terry Cox from
Gray County Sheriff's Office
said the
Pampa Police Department
received a 9-1-1 call around 2:40 p.m. Saturday from an employee of a company dismantling building and components of the former
Celanese Plant
located on
Highway 60 and F.M. 2300
. The caller advised that that a portion of a building had collapsed causing two workers to fall from approximately 40 feet.
The Gray County Sheriff's Office, Pampa EMS, Pampa Fire Department and the Hoover Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene. One worker was transported to the
Pampa Regional Medical Center
by Pampa EMS, the severity of those injuries are unknown. The other worker was trapped in debris from the collapse. A part of the building covering a conveyer chute that was still attached to the building made the area unsafe for rescue personnel.
Officials say they worked to make the scene safe and around 5:35 p.m. Saturday workers found 44-year old Jesus J. Ramirez-Chavez of Pampa under the debris. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
No word from officials on the cause of the collapse or the identity of the other worker injured.
