AMARILLO, TEXAS -- On Sunday night at approximately 9:39 p.m. an Amarillo Police Officer observed a truck strike a pole in the 700 block of north Pierce street. The truck knocked the pole over and the officer saw the driver and truck leaving the scene.

When the officer tried to stop the truck, the vehicle refused to stop according to a news release from Amarillo Police Department.

As the vehicle continued to evade police, APD officers stopped pursuing the vehicle as the Department of Public Safety helicopter started observing the truck.

Officers were stopped at north Grand Street when the truck turned around and went towards police who had to take evasive action to avoiding being hit by the vehicle, according to police.

The truck continued to evade police until it struck a house in the 1400 block of Hilltop. The driver then fled the scene on foot. Police apprehended the driver after a short foot chase.

Police later discovered that the truck was stolen from a local business.

Erick Ramos, 30, was arrested and booked into the Potter County Correction Center for evading with a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and aggravated assault on a peace officer.
