Weekend DPS traffic stops net $472K worth of Methamphetamine

Two different traffic stops conducted by Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers unveiled 5,349 grams of methamphetamine.

The first stop occurred Saturday March 2, 2013 at approximately 6:20 p.m. when a DPS trooper stopped a Volkswagen Jetta seven miles outside of Conway on a traffic violation.

During the stop, the DPS trooper searched the vehicle and discovered 1,944 grams of methamphetamine inside the vehicle. The 2 bundles of methamphetamine was found inside the liner of a suitcase and was allegedly being transported from Phoenix, Arizona to Oklahoma City Okla.

28-year-old Lizeth G. Soto-Duarte was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and booked into the Carson County Jail.

The second stop occurred Sunday March 3, 2013 when a DPS trooper stopped a Mazda 3 one mile outside of Conway for a traffic violation.

Joy L. Romero, 56, and her passenger Esmeralda Farias, 47, were arrested for possession of a controlled substance after a DPS trooper with the assistance of a K-9 unit found 6 bundles of methamphetamine inside the vehicle.The 3,405 grams of methamphetamine was found inside the firewall of the vehicle.

Romero and Farias were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and booked into the Carson County Jail.
